Save Your Scraps for Candied Clementines, 2020
Zine, 3″ x 4″
In this zine, I wanted to beautify the process of cooking with kitchen scraps. I have developed a habit of saving the ends of my veggies, or freezing things just before they go bad so I can utilize them later. I find some of the most comfort in foods I make from scraps- almost nothing is better than dipping a crispy fritter into a warm broth on a rainy evening in Portland. I used this zine as a means to elevate this kind of cooking, to show the magic that can happen when you extend the life of your food while simultaneously reducing food waste. During this time of crisis, I see eating as a privilege. So many Americans are experiencing food insecurity that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
